One of the most dramatic solar eclipses most of us will ever experience is going to happen next Monday, April 15 between 2:00 and 4:30 pm (depending on where you’re situated.) Monday’s total eclipse will be the first in Southern Ontario since 1925, and the last one until 2144. The eclipse will be most striking in the Niagara and GTA areas. Waterloo Region will see a 99% eclipse.
People have been warned not to look directly at it; many schools will apparently be closed; and a state of emergency has been declared in Niagara Falls where up to a million visitors are expected.
Your eyes can be damaged permanently
Even during a total eclipse, looking at the Sun is dangerous and can cause permanent damage to your eyes. In order to watch the eclipse safely, you must wear eclipse glasses that satisfy the ISO 12312-2:2015 safety standard.
